Many students have extenuating (or mitigating) circumstances for a variety of reasons. This can be anything from bereavement through to personal illness during or around the time of important exams.  Universities will take extenuating circumstances into account, but it is important to advise admissions tutors at medical schools of any events that may affect final grades.  Medical, Dentistry and Veterinary schools all prefer exam boards to be notified of any issues, so it is advisable for students to discuss any issues with teachers and request that they advise the exam boards of the situation on their behalf.  Additional forms and doctors records will need to be submitted to the universities, and each university has its own method of managing these situations. Some universities prefer to be contact before the UCAS application is submitted and others prefer to be sent all the information after the UCAS application is submitted.  Either way, it is essential that prospective Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary students contact the universities to find out exactly what they need to do, and what the procedures are.
