Degree Apprentiships

Earn and Learn

Universities in partnership with employers

Each year, more universities around the UK create partnerships with local employers to provide students with the opportunity to earn and learn.  However, students applying for these need to be aware that they cannot always choose their universities in the same way as for other subjects.

Earn and Learn

Every degree apprenticeship is different, and must be researched carefully. Degree apprenticeships are for undergraduate students who want to earn and learn simultaneously. Typically, a 3 or 4-year degree will become 4 or 5 years as students combine their studies with gaining professional training for a specific industry. For example, a week may be divided between 3 days at university and 2 days at work. Some employers arrange the work experience to take place during the holidays, so that students can focus on their studies during the term time.

Applying

Some applications are two-fold, both directly with the employer as well as UCAS. This needs to be carefully researched at the outset, as there will be deadlines that vary from one degree apprenticeship to another.

Not for the work shy

Those who apply for these need to be aware that they will be balancing an intense workload. Typically sacrificing time during the evening and at weekends in order to complete academic work on time.

Free tuition fees and a job

All university tuition fees are covered by the employer, and students earn a salary at the same time as studying. Having proved themselves with the employer, students are often offered employment at the end of the degree.
