About My Degree
Supporting Students for their Future
Sarah McWatters
Higher Education Consultant
Helping students to prepare competitive university applications is something I enjoy doing. Part of this is making sure that they have everything in place to attract offers from top universities across the UK. It is always extremely satisfying when they realise their potential and secure their places.
Equally I like to help undergraduates to explore the breadth of career opportunities available to them through internships. These which are often the key to staying on track for graduate-level employment.
Applying to University in the UK
Each year I give talks about university options and meet over 100 students individually, discussing their degree options and helping them with their journey into university. It is crucial that they maximise on their potential so that they receive offers from top universities across the UK.
Much of my work is focused on the Russell Group, but equally I enjoy exploring other exciting degree opportunities from a broad range of universities. I have long-term contracts with a top London sixth form Brampton College and Ivy Education a leading London independent tutorial.
Applying for Internships
Internships are a key steppingstone into the world of graduate-level employment, and these can be explored both before and during the undergraduate experience. It is very satisfying helping students to broaden their opportunities. Very often assumptions are made about links between sixth form subjects, degrees and destinations, but there are many more pathways available than they may imagine.
My Experience
After school I followed the apprenticeship route, learning about wine import and export, covering retail, wholesale and distribution both in the UK and abroad. After six months in Paris and four years in Spain, I studied Hispanics at UCL as a mature student, opening the door to working as a journalist on the Latin American desk for Associated Press Television News. After starting my family, I retrained and went back to university in 2011 to complete an MSc in Careers Guidance, specialising in Higher Education. I am a member of the CDI, an NLP practitioner, and my DBS is up to date.
Consultancy
I offer a comprehensive service for all students wanting to submit well-considered university applications, whether for degrees in the humanities, arts, sciences or social sciences.
